The Blurb

Love at first sighting.

Life is a headache for 15-year-old Dan. This isn’t some kind of metaphor. Dan suffers from migraines that make just about everything he does unbearable. Added to that he’s lost almost everyone he cares about. So he feels lonelier than the last puppy in a pet shop.

But one day he sees a mysterious girl digging in the rubbish bins behind his house. Just by being near her, he finds that all his pain goes away. So he wants to see her again, of course. And get to know her. But she’s a bit strange. And her big eyes make her look, well, like an alien.

Does she really exist? Or is she just a figment of an overactive, under-loved imagination?

Close encounters of the romantic kind.

My Thoughts

Alien Love Story is aimed at the YA market and at only 125 pages long it’s a pretty fast read that should keep the attention of most readers. It’s a book of two halves for me. The first half is great it’s funny in places and touching in others. Dan hasn’t had a great life so far and then he becomes obsessed with an alien. Or does he? We never really get to know.

It kind of reminded me of the 80s kids program Chocky and I was hoping the story would expand on his headaches and explain the Aliens but alas the second half felt rushed. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but was just a bit disappointed. This could have easily been a 5*.

I wouldn’t class it as romantic or a love story more Sci-fi.

But my 17 readers who am I to judge? Just some middle aged bloke who has trouble writing 200 word reviews without sounding like the under educated loser he is.
